The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium

The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium - Universal Citywalk

On this review we're going to a place that has always struck our eye, but this isn't at Disney, now we head to Universal Studios and over to Citywalk. Citywalk is Universal restaurant and shopping mecca, similar to Disney Springs. Something to keep in mind if you're interested in coming to Universal's Citywalk that it is only free to park only after 6pm nightly. Otherwise you will get hit with a parking fee. Also for parking, Universal has two very large garages that are used for both of their parks, Volcano Bay and Citywalk.

Onto the reason why we came to Toothsome Chocolate Emporium. We wanted something different for dinner, didn't want to go to Disney again so we decided after several years we would head to Universal. For us it wasn't a long drive, around the same timeframe, maybe a few minutes less. So once we got to the parking lot at Universal we headed through the garage into the security check-in and through to Citywalk. We checked out a few options and just walked up to Toothsome Chocolate Emporium and. The restaurant is very large from the outside with a Steampunk theme inside and out.

When you walk in you see case after case of sweets, so many different options that all look amazing! Also a shopping section with so many different options. Originally when we went we had a 50 minute wait, we were about to leave when the hostess said you can always head upstairs to see if the bar is open, so we walked up and luckily found two spots at the bar to sit at.

Service was a bit crappy for us sitting at the bar. We had people on both sides of us, one couple was there prior to us and one came in after us. The people who came in after us had ordered and got apps to them before we even ordered and the bartenders were taking really good care of the people next to us. Could have been a bad start, service got a little better throughout the night.

The menu has a little bit of everything on it, kinda like Planet Hollywood but with a lot of chocolate options. We went through the pages trying to see what we wanted. We finally decided on two options. Honestly they weren't the best options but we wanted to stick with a chocolate-theme. We also got dessert which I will get to all of that below. After we dined here we heard several people say that dessert was really good and food was just so-so. We honestly felt the same exact way after dining here. Food sounds and looks good but you're not coming here for that, you're coming for the desserts.

Overall this is one of those places that you always see and it looks very interesting to eat at. We'd suggest trying it out at least once. We will come back for sure since we wanted to try a few more desserts. Another note, this place can get super-packed and hard to walk around so pack patience with you, especially on the main floor.

(SECOND VISIT)

Well on our second visit, things were a little bit different. After spending the day at Islands of Adventure (check out the tour HERE), we were getting hungry and decided on checking out Toothsomes. This time it was during the mid-afternoon hours, so it wasn't as busy. We were seated upstairs overlooking CityWalk. Service this time still wasn't the best. Our food (Egg Rolls & Birthday Cake Sundae) were both really good. The Egg Rolls for some reason ended up taking about 20 mins or so. The manager had come over and said it was on the house for taking so long, that was nice of them. Overall this time we loved the food. Service could have been better. Glad that the food options this time were spot on, will come back again. Check out the photos we added from our second trip.

On the first floor you have dozens upon dozens of sweet options to choose from. Such an amazing selection. We were blown away.

Some very unique outfits.

Endless options! Also looked much better than the options at Disney.

Here are some of the workers making a few of those amazing desserts.

Here are your options for shakes!

One of the many seating areas.

This is a two level restaurant and it's very open.

The upstairs bar. It wraps all the way around the floor, we sat all the way on the other side.

More seating.

He runs on chocolate.

These were the Coffee and Chocolate Stout Chicken Wings that were flash fried and covered with a Chocolate Stout Glaze. The chicken was cooked to perfection. The Chocolate Stout Glaze was very mild, we expected more of a punch from it.

These were the Black & Tan Onion Rings severed with a Cocoa Ranch Dipping Sauce. The Onion Rings were not that great, mainly batter and very little onion. Not the best we've ever had. The Cocoa Ranch Dipping Sauce was very thick and not too good at all. Not much Ranch flavor at all, mainly that potent Cocoa flavor which we're not too big of fans of. Not a great dish.

Philly Cheesesteak Eggrolls. They had cheesesteak, peppers and onions, wrapped up in a crispy wrapper with a cherry pepper aioli. These were amazing! Loved the flavor of every bite and the aioli was great, even though the eggrolls didn't even need them. These are a MUST TRY!!!

The name of this was May Contain Nuts, it has Peanut Butter Ice Cream, Peanut Brittle, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, Fresh Whipped Cream and Peanut Butter Sauce, topped with Reese's Pieces. First off, we had no Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, that we remember eating. That was a few points lost there. Overall this was pretty good, it wasn't the best-looking option coming out of the kitchen but flavor was there. Everything was great inside of it, a bit on the heavy side but really good.

In celebration of my wife's birthday we decided that she needed some birthday cake. Here we have the Birthday Cake Sundae, it is Confetti Cake, White Chocolate Ice Cream, Cake Cone, Rainbow Sprinkles, Buttercream and a Strawberry Sauce. Now thinking about it when I write this, we didn't get the Strawberry Sauce, which is totally fine, didn't want it anyways. This was really good!
