Sugar Factory - Orlando
Tonight we head on International Drive and dine at Sugar Factory. Let me talk briefly about International Drive. It's located just a few miles from all of the major theme parks and is a hot spot any time of day. You can find all different types of restaurants, things to do and attractions up and down the road. Where we're heading tonight is one of the busiest parts of this road.
Sugar Factory is located under the Orlando Eye aka Coca Cola Orlando Eye, aka Icon Orlando aka the Big Round Wheel. We've been wanting to come here for a little while and try it out. This is one of those gimmicky food places. It advertises as a place that all of these celebrities come to. You see pictures outside and on televisions inside of the celebrities enjoying meals here. We did not get a chance to meet any on this night.
For starters if you're planning to dine here, realize it is not a large restaurant and it does get very, very loud in here. If you're looking for a quieter meal then head somewhere else. Also this place does get very busy so try to make a reservation in advance. One Saturday night we tried to go and they said it was a three hour wait, at 6pm. Granted you have a ton of different things to do during that time.
So ambiance in this place was decent, nothing crazy. Like I mentioned it was more images of celebrities eating here than anything else. The main attraction here is the unique desserts that they offer along with some crazy concoctions and food. The best we can compare this place to is Toothsomes over at Universals City Walk. Ambiance there wins but food wins here. We only really got an app and two desserts. We ended up with a free app since we used a coupon from my Yelp app, and we're glad we did.
Overall the food was much better than we thought and will return here again in the future. Our suggestion is to make the most of your time in this location. You have a Wax Museum, Aquarium and a Skeleton Museum (which we have another blog about) all in this location. So much to check out just in this location alone. Not to mention that you can hop a ride either on the 400' Orlando Eye or buy tickets here to Lego Land, they have a round trip shuttle in this building. Parking is free in the garage around back and plenty of spots towards the top floors.
View from outside. In this same area you have several other restaurants and attractions.
Inside bar.
View of the dining room.
More views from inside.
Just about every dessert that comes out the staff will dance around your table to.
This was our free app, through the Yelp app. It was three little sliders. We thought they would not be too good, but we were wrong. These little burgers packed so much flavor and loved their signature sauce and fried onion straws. So good!
This was the Chocolate Rocky Road Milkshake. The outside was covered in chocolate that you can scrape off with a spoon, also was dusted in walnuts. The chocolate covered marshmallows on top were great! Also had a half of a glazed donut. They take about 20 minutes to make since the chocolate needs to settle, so keep that in mind.
The other shake we ordered was the Dulce De Leche Milkshake. Another hit. It came with a unicorn pop, and it was also chocolate coated on the outside with some amazing popcorn! It's hard to see but they also put in a waffle cone inside it. Another great shake!
A view of both shakes. They look skinny, but with the two shakes and three sliders we walked out very full!
They have a gift shop also a walkup window where you can get shakes.
