Trattoria al Forno

Trattoria al Forno - Disney's Boardwalk Resort

So originally we came here for dinner, highly recommended by a friend. Decided to give it a try. It was a Saturday night whim for us. Overall the service was great, ambiance of the restaurant and kitchen for the most part was great, we were actually tucked away in a small room away from the main dining area. Something to note on dinner, I'm a big Yelp fan and always use that site to gauge what I'm thinking of getting. For dinner the two options we ordered were both smaller and different in appearance and options. Not a big deal, just something to note. Overall the food was okay, wouldn't rush back anytime soon.

Well several months later, here we are again. This time on another whim, but now for breakfast. Usually this is a character dining experience, however due to the Coronavirus they have stopped that and now currently offer a limited menu. Much like our last visit the service was great, things were spread apart and felt generally good about dining out, since we really haven't done much of it lately. Onto the most important part, the food. What can I say? AMAZING!!!! We loved what we ordered and a totally different experience the second time around. It was one of the best breakfast options we've had and we left wanting to come back again very soon. Which makes us want to come again, but for dinner.

Just enjoying our view on the Boardwalk before dinner.

View of the dining area, in the back is the open kitchen.

More of the main dining area.

Started off with a delicious Sangria.

For bread they give you some mini loaves. They came with olive oil, didn't get any butter. The oil was a bit much for us personally. I saved my half for my Chicken Parm. Wasn't the best bread, more mediocre much like the entire meal.

My dish was the Parmigiana di Pollo (Chicken Parmesan), which is a breaded Chicken breast, Romano & Provolone Cheeses with their Sunday Gravy. With the dish you get a side of pasta. For my pasta it came with a spaghetti. Now what I mentioned above, from Yelp pictures to real thing does vary. I expected a different pasta, although it was good, it really wasn't what I wanted. I wanted ones I saw in the picture and I should have asked for another option. Also the Chicken in many pictures was a lot bigger. I know I'm being picky, but I can be. On the flip side, the pricing overall wasn't bad, it cost $40 for two meals, really not bad at all for Disney. This dish was nice, I enjoyed the flavor, wasn't in wow with it, but it was good.

My wife went with Meatballs with Cavetelli Pasta. She enjoyed the dish. The pasta is one I always loved eating, even as a kid. So I really enjoyed that, lots of sauce to keep it nice and wet. The meatballs I didn't like the seasoning, my wife did like it.

I went with the Steak & Eggs, this is an Oak-grilled Steak served with Asparagus, Cheesy-Egg Torte, Fonduta Breakfast Potatoes and Crispy Onions. Overall you see the image, and go wow, that looks good, right? Well yes the picture here does not lie, it was actually better tasting than it looked. Only negative was that it was a tad bit too salty. Not the end of the world. The steak was cooked perfectly, and very tender. The Eggs were light and fluffy and very tasty. The asparagus I enjoyed very much. Potatoes were the overly salty part, but still good flavor with the onion. I'd get this again for sure.

My wife went with the Open-faced Italian Omelet, which has Fresh Mozzarella, Sunday Gravy, Breakfast Potatoes and a side of bacon (or sausage). The star here was the sauce (gravy). This reminded me of being a kid and smelling that sauce cooking all day in that large pot. That same smell, look and taste was there. Perfection! I would just come and order that sauce. Now the rest of the food, amazing! This dish worked on every level, from the sauce, to the eggs, to the arugula on top. I would get this again, and again, and again. This was one of those times were we got two amazing dishes and one surpassed, leaving the other as an after thought.

Another view of the restaurant.

Up close view of the amazing open kitchen.
